I admit, I’ve never really been a fan of the pineapple doily pattern.  I know some people really get into pineapples as an old symbol of hospitality, and that’s cool, but it’s been one old crochet motif I couldn’t really get into.  Or see modernized.  Of course I was wrong.  I love, love, love that colorful bedspread on white above!  I’d take that exact bed make-up.

And this?  This is truly creative.  I love the graphic, oversized black doily over the floaty, airy tulle.  What a fantastic contrast!

Here’s another great larger, colorful doily.

These remind me once again that anything, ANYTHING old can be made new again if we just put our minds to it.  What old fashioned thing would you love to see reinterpreted?

That black doily skirt is INCREDIBLE!!!! I have a pineapple doily collar I wore in the 80′s and think I should dig it out! I’m working on reinterpreting my great grandmother’s grape and leaf motif collar from 1917. It’s slooow going with the tiny stitches and tiny parts but I’m … no … quitter…

Wow, Martha, that sounds intense! Are you going to use it for a collar, too, or something else? Do you have pictures of it?
