Hello, friend, happy Friday!
I have another baby blanket to show you! This lovely spotty one was also done with Melissa for another girl friend of ours.
Two friends with babies 6 weeks apart!
Heather loves modern design, with a love of spots and dots. So it was, “modern, but not too spare, and still baby…but still modern.” ;) The inspiration for her blanket came not from the pattern itself, but the graph of a teddy bear blanket.
In the teddy bear pattern, the circles are light brown, and then little crochet ears are attached, as well as embroidered eyes and mouth. With baby blue stripes. Sort cute. But very traditional “baby” and not what we were going for at all. Upon turning the page though, the plain grid with gray circle inside jumped out and said,
“Look at me, I’m a modern dot!”
Getting 2 baby blankets worked on during the craziness of August and September and coordinating times to work on them felt a little busy at times, but it was good for us. We loved how they turned out, and the mamas like them, too.
But what will stay with me, even more than the happiness of a project completed was the complete joy and privilege that it is to have a crafty friend and “excuse” to get together weekly.
Ugh. Why do we need an excuse, right? Friendship is reason enough. Let’s all get together more often, okay? Have you ever teamed up for gift giving and making? Does it sound like something you’d like to do?
p.s. Upon completion Mel said it looked like “Baby Twister” to her, while I was thinking, “tic-tac-toe, anyone?”
